Renaissance is a sequel to the composer's earlier work Shine as the Light, expanding on the concluding theme of the latter (a celebration of the Second Coming). AS with Shine as the Light, the work of Major Joy Webb lies at the core of the music. Here Major Webb's song Come into our world, a plea for a revival or renaissance in the form of Christ's promised return, is perhaps particularly fitting at the dawn of the new millennium.
In addition to providing the textual basis, Major Webb's song also provides the musical building blocks. Other references include the hymn St Francis and the piece concludes with the majestic Laudes Domini.
