Level of difficulty: moderately difficultProduced by The Salvation Army - Canadian Territory
A lot of the history of this piece is unknown. The suite appears to be free transcriptions of three of the composerᄀᆵs songs that have been published in ᄀᆴThe Musical Salvationistᄀᆵ.The first movement is based on the composerᄀᆵs own majestic setting of the great Easter hymn by Charles Wesley, Christ the Lord is Risen Today! This is noble music that requires expansive, vocal phrasing.Thomas Rive named the melody on which the second movement is based Whitsuntide and it is a setting of words by Harriet Auber. The music is very peaceful and mysterious, contrasting well with the two outer movements. The last movement is a ᄀᆴPaeanᄀᆵ (song of thanksgiving) based on his own setting of Thomas Kellyᄀᆵs hymn, Look, ye saints! There is a strong rhythmic drive to this music that creates a dignified sense of majesty.
