Hagar? Who is Hagar? Only a supporting actress in the grand drama of Genesis (or so I thought), she has not had a sterling reputation over the years. She wandered through the margins of the narrative of Abraham and Sarah, and from what I could remember, she tended to cause trouble. So why choose Hagar for the subject of a book about hearing and seeing God? After all, she is a slave, an outcast, the other of Ishmael. She's not on the top ten list of Bible heroines. What could we possibly learn from Hagar? Wasn't Sarah the star of the Genesis drama?
