"The children must be noticed." declared Commissioner Brengle. And noticed they have been, as The Salvation Army around the world has devoted itself to saving the children and shepherding them in a multiplicity of programs. This collection of writings describes both the purpose and the process.
However, this is not a "how to do it" manual for those involved in work with children. The various Youth Departments supply these in abundance, written by experienced, competent Salvationists, in practical, contemporary terms. All these interested in youth work are advised to make full use of the available materials. This anthology is a collection of Salvationist writings on the importance of work with the boys and girls, written by Army leaders from William Booth to Catherine Baird, from Samuel Logan Brengle to John Larsson. It is designed to provide background information on the beginnings of Salvation Army work among children, by the pioneers who were involved in this historic development, as well as by contemporary leaders.
From these pages you will catch something of the basic Philosophy and motivation of all that the Army does for boys and girls. Let us pray that Salvationists everywhere well emulate the example of the Children's Friend, who "set a child in their midst."
