Program Note
Here is a medley of traditional tunes from the West Indies that brings a lively Caribbean rhythm to the Christmas season. Features are "The Virgin Mary had A Baby Boy" and "Mary Had A Baby".
Note to the Conductor
Take your time with the opening bars, which should be well sustained. The new tempo and style at measure 5 should lock in immediately with good Rhythmic pulse from Parts 4 and 5. Follow the metronome directive.
Throughout, observe articulations (particularly the staccato quarters) and keep the eighth notes short.
At bar 44 the Part 3 solo line should play out a bit on the first time through. Note that the eighth notes are intentionally marked straight and not swung in this setting.
